FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS (FAQs)

What is Aggie Park?
In 1946, Aggie Park was created as the home of the San Antonio A&M Club. This facility is one of a kind. No other alumni club anywhere has a facility as unique as Aggie Park. When the San Antonio A&M Club was granted is original charter by the Texas Secretary of State, 3.3 acres of land on the outskirts of San Antonio, next to Olmos Creek, were purchased from Henry Wier's dairy by 10 men who personally bankrolled that far sighted vision. It was a place where Aggies could meet with friends and family to share the traditions of Texas A&M.

As time passed the number of Aggies grew, improvements to the land were started. A BBQ pit was built and a patio added. A building began to grow slowly through the efforts of dedicated Aggie volunteers. Concrete block and bricks were donated to build the walls, and windows that were salvaged from Beeville AFB were installed. Also, drill stem pipes from the oil fields in Victoria, TX. were donated to build the roof trusses.

During Muster, April 21, 1954, the San Antonio A&M Club dedicated Aggie Park to the memory of all Aggies who had given their life in protecting our country. By then the park had become a landmark in the San Antonio Community. Continued improvements were made through the contributions of material and labor from dedicated Aggies. In 1979 the San Antonio A&M Club moved its daily operation to Aggie Park along with the weekly Monday luncheon.

Can I be an Aggie Mom without having a child at A&M-College Station or Galveston?
According to our Constitution and Bylaws, Members are mothers and other interested relatives and friends of the students and former students of Texas A&M University at College Station, Texas A&M University at Galveston, and Texas A&M University at Qatar. For more information about the categories of membership, visit the Membership links.

How long can I be an Aggie Mom?
We have many moms who want to continue the relationships they've made in Aggie Moms and who want to keep supporting and learning about Aggieland. So you can continue as an Active Member or you can join the Ring of Honor for moms of graduates.

Who is eligible for Goodie Bags during Final Exams at College Station?
Goodie Bags are provided FREE to any Bexar County student. We prepare approximately 300 bags which are distributed on several places on campus on a designated day on a first-come, first-served basis. San Antonio Aggie Mom members are informed of the date, time and place of distribution, but non-members' students also can pick up a bag full of snacks and drinks to help them survive Finals Week during the Fall and Spring semesters. The details are publicized in our newsletter, on our website and at various locations at TAMU.

Can moms of the new Texas A&M-San Antonio join our club? The new campus in South San Antonio is part of the Texas A&M University System, but it is not a branch of our campus in College Station or Galveston. They will not be Aggies. They are a separate university and will have a separate president. They are not Aggie Moms.

In contrast, Galveston students are “Sea Aggies” and their president is the same as the College Station president. Therefore, they are Aggie Moms.

What’s so special about an Aggie Ring?
The Aggie Ring is prized by students at A&M because they must acquire a designated number of hours in residence to earn it. It is the symbol that Aggies around the world notice when they meet people, whether socially or in the business world. It recognizes that they are part of the Aggie family/network.

To demonstrate the importance of the Aggie Ring, consider these statistics, provided by the Association of Former Students:
• Nearly 10,000 Aggie Rings are given out in a year. At UT, 500 are distributed in a year.
• An incredible 98 percent of undergrads order Aggie rings.
• 50% of graduate students order Aggie rings.
